Direct Routing, grid mora, meridians and parallels
Hi,
Maps Pro is awesome. I am replacing my aviation en route VFR paper charts by it. It is that flexible. I do have a few ideas that would transform it from a great alternative to VFR paper charts to the perfect alternative. I will suggest them beginning with the ones I believe more important:
Direct routing. Rather than fastest or shortest route, the route from A to B would be simply a straight line. Very, very simple. If you'd include some extra information like distance in nautical miles, and direction in true and magnetic north it would be perfect.
Grid MORA. VFR charts are divided into rectangles each containing a big number. That number is the altitude at which it is safe to fly clear of obstacles in that rectangle.
Meridians and parallels. This should be the easiest one. Simply draw parallels and meridians overlaid on the chart.
Once again, as it is, the current features are already good enough for me to ditch my paper charts, but these would make your App very appealing to the aviation community.
Thanks!
Best Regards,
Rui Craveiro

Hello again,
About the Grid MORA, actually if you change the map style to the ESRI "World Navigation Chart", you will have the MORA Grid with other navigation informations. In areas the map is quite old (for instance next to where I live, it has an airport that changed name 15 years ago or something) but the MORA should be the same overall. There are some missing parts of the world but Portugal seem to be well covered.
As other map styles, it can be downloaded for offline useFabien

Hello Rui and thanks a lot for this suggestion,
It is quite amazing to know that my application could be used for aviation, I didn't expect that at all! Here are a couple answer/questions for you:
- Direct routing: It looks like the current "routing" calculation is not good for the job at all as it is too centered on being in a road vehicule. I guess it could be a separate tool for this task. Some kind of measure tool instead, where you could point and click (or tap) two points on the map and get the distance in the unit you chose (so miles/km but I could add a nautical miles option) and the true/magnetic northing once you have selected point A and B.
What do you think?- Grid MORA: I have a colleague who explained to me the MORA charts, it seems very critical! I need to look up possible options to display these in Maps Pro, see if the data is freely available online and in which format. I'll let you know
- Meridians and parallels: Sounds pretty easy to add to Maps Pro.
Thanks for your feedback!
